Job Description: Carolina Wildlife Care is looking for a dynamic individual to join our education team as a Wildlife Educator to direct and facilitate our offsite education program, Wonders of Wildlife (WOW). The WOW program is designed to bring an appreciation of nature, an understanding of conservation and stewardship, and to instill an appreciation for wildlife and the environment that we share with them. WOW uses interactive learning to connect children of all ages to the natural world.
Duties: Directly responsible for the coordination, development, and instruction of outreach (off-site) education programs integrating the use of live animals offered by Carolina Wildlife Care. Implement age-appropriate curriculums written in accordance with national and SC state education standards and of the highest quality. Develop relationships with school principals, teachers, directors, etc. to schedule programs at various schools, daycares, and after school programs. Deliver outreach and on-site education programs with consistent attention to quality. Provide responsible and compassionate care to education animals while off-site.
Requirements: Must be enrolled in or be a graduate of a Bachelors program in Education or Science Education with some teaching experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Must have a strong base knowledge of science as it relates to animals and plants. Must be comfortable handling animals (small mammals, reptiles, and birds) and animal artifacts. Must be CPR/First Aid certified and have proof of a current tetanus immunization. Must demonstrate enthusiasm and a commitment to high quality programming and care of our customers. A strong desire and ability to deliver the message, mission, and goals of Carolina Wildlife Care to a wide variety of audiences. Possess or be eligible for a valid SC state driver's license. Must be able to provide own transportation. Must be able to lift/move/carry up to 50 pounds without assistance.

Summer Camp Educator

Job Description: Carolina Wildlife Care is looking for a dynamic individual to join our education team as a Summer Camp Educator to facilitate our summer camp program, Camp Wild Things. Camp WILD Things is a fast moving, half-day, interactive conservation camp integrating hands-on experiences for children ages 6-12 at Carolina Wildlife Care.
Duties: Teach environmental topics through hands-on lessons, games and crafts. Incorporate daily wildlife encounters and animal artifacts to create a fun and interactive camp experience. Coordinate and supervise all aspects of daily camp program and assist in planning of all-camp activities and curriculum. Supervise arts and crafts, games, and other camp activities. Purchase supplies, organize and develop projects. Supervise interns assigned to assist. Provide responsible care and handling of education animals.

Duties: Daily animal care including but not limited to feeding, cleaning, and medicating small and large mammals, primarily squirrels, rabbits, opossums, fawns. Ensure that cages and facility are cleaned and maintained daily, feeding schedules are followed and other animal care needs are met. Perform initial examinations and on incoming patients and administer medical care under supervision. Train interns, volunteers and work study students. Admit wildlife from the public and provide assistance both in person and over the phone regarding animal rescues, transport, and emergency care. Maintain detailed animal records. Provide home based care for neonates or critical care patients, as necessary.

Wildlife Rehabilitator- Reptiles

Job Description: Carolina Wildlife Care is currently recruiting for a part time reptile rehabilitator to provide care to reptiles and amphibians in rehabilitation, including cleaning, feeding, medicating and fluids. The job will also include feeding, cleaning and maintenance of the education reptiles and their exhibits.
Duties: Prepare and maintain proper set up for a variety of reptiles and amphibians, including turtles, snakes, lizards, skinks and toads. Provide adequate nutrition and hydration using appropriate diets and supplements. Clean and maintain inside and outside habitats, including aquatic tanks. Assess and provide medical care to sick and injured reptiles. Provide transport to vet and aftercare for critically sick or injured reptiles. Prepare and maintain daily care sheets and feeding charts.
Requirements: Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or current coursework in a related life science. Previous experience working with reptiles and a good knowledge of proper husbandry for both terrestrial and aquatic reptiles and amphibians required. Must have good observation, record keeping, and communication skills, and be able to interact positively with the public, staff and volunteers. Candidates must be able to work in outside weather conditions. Must be able to lift/move/carry up to 50 pounds without assistance and have proof of a current tetanus immunization. Possess or be eligible for a valid SC state driver's license.
