We can no longer admit baby opossums
Because of the unusually high number of baby opossums brought into the Center for care this Spring, our facility is now at capacity!
We regret to announce that, effective April 29, 2023, we must temporarily limit the admission of baby opossums.
We take the care of our patients very seriously and know that the high-quality standard of care we provide will weaken if we do not act now. Our focus needs to be on the 400+ baby opossums and all the other animals presently in our care. We just do not have the space or staff to care for any more baby opossums at this time.
This decision has been incredibly tough to make, as it pains us deeply to turn away any animal. While this decision is exceedingly difficult, we are heartened by the fact that there are other wildlife rehabilitators in the Columbia area that can care for baby opossums.
If you find uninjured orphaned baby opossums, please call the Center at 803-772-3994 or visit this page for Rescue Advice.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this difficult time.
Please note: Carolina Wildlife Center does not endorse or recommend other wildlife rehabilitation organizations or individual rehabilitators for rescue advice or rehabilitation service as we do not formally vet other wildlife rehabilitation providers.
